how to get rid of the smell of snowboard jacket collar?

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

the collar (the part that goes over the mouth) of my snowboard jacket smells really bad from being wet all the time, and possibily from my spit.

i tried febreeze, that just made it smell like febreeze + the wet smell.
I dont want to use detergent on the whole jacket cuz i remember you are not suppose to because it would cut ruin the waterproofing.
So i used detergent on just the collar then rinsed it, but the weird smell still lingers.

is there any natural stuff i can use? like lemon mixed with water or something……….

also, if anyone know how to get rid of the smell of wet snowboard boot liners, please let me know.

thanks!
thanks for the answers…………I know about Nikwax and washing and all that, but my question is just about the COLLAR part.
I have tried washing the whole jacket but the collar still kinda smells.

to Nephroid:
its really wet here in the northwest, so we need the waterproofing ;)

Unless they’re stained, I typically wash my jacket once at the end of every season before putting it away. I just follow the instructions on the tag which say to use powdered laundry detergent.

I ussually just hang it to dry and then waterproof it with a spray at the beginning of next season. I’ve never used the wash-in waterproofing so I can’t say if it works well or not.

In general I don’t really seem to need that waterproofing all that much though. Maybe in the spring when it gets really slushy. In fact this season, I may have forgotten to waterproof my jacket at all, and I didn’t really notice.

In the future you might want to consider getting a face mask, baklava (sp?), or bandana to put over your mouth. That way you can keep the goobers off your collar and just throw it in the wash at the end of every day.

a good winter jacket?snowboard jackets?

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

i want a good snowboard jacket i want a good light jacket but still warm. im very small for a 14 yr old liike an XS in womens maybe? or a medium in girls. i also want cool patterns ( for snowboardiing obviosly). im so tiny thou i want one that curves into the waist because i hate big jackets.
i do own a jacket obviosly lol but i hate it! its too bulky for my frame and i look stupid! lol :)

Well check out these sites below they’ll have a good selection of gear, As for quality look to stay above 10k on waterproofing and breathability. I myself don’t ride below 15k and stay warm and dry with only a pair of thermals on underneath.

Ride Snowboards Men's Gatewood Snowboard Jacket Lime L

When seeking out for a brand new snowboard coat there are some features you’ll want to consider for inclusion in the garment such as added warmth for fortifying your upper body, pockets to bury your paws when it’s chilly, a great fit in the hip/chest/arm areas, etc. The Ride Snowboards Men’s Gatewood Snowboard Jacket has rapidly risen to the pinnacle as one of the snow sport industry’s top performing jackets for all sorts of wintry environments. It has many of the whistles and bells needed to ensure an excellent adventure on the mountain. It can be layered on top of a performance baselayer as well, and we’d advocate one from either Helly Hansen, Mountain Hardware, Under Armour or Patagonia. Of course, Ride Snowboards could have congenial base layers in the shop that you don’t want to overlook.Ride Snowboards snowboard coats are some of the best around. The Men’s Gatewood Snowboard Jacket comes in Lime and Mind Games Canteen. Depending on the color of your other pieces of equipment, such as your snowboard pants, gloves and goggles, you may want to order a color that coincides with the rest of your gear.

What to wear under snowboard jacket?

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

I recently bought a winter jacket made by DC, the material is very water resistant but there isn’t much insulation, nor much room to layer underneath. What would you recommend to wear under the jacket to keep warm, I think a hoddie would be too big, and limit moving room.
Also, are jeans or sweats the best way to go under thin snowboard pants? I’m new to the mountain and need to know! Thanks!
Any other (useful) tips about snowboarding are welcome!

Wear a light long sleeve shirt or light sweater under. You don’t want to wear anything heavy because although its cold out you’ll still get hot from using so much energy to snowboard down the mountain. Jeans are horrible to wear under snowboard pants. Normal sweatpants work okay, but I’ve come to find that spandex pants or yoga pants work the best and are the most comfortable.
