They’re actually …
They’re actually very different:
Smith has had a much harder time establishing a place for himself in moviemaking. Burton has all the contacts and friendships that Smith lacks.
The only reason the latter ever made it into movies in the first place is because Miramax was looking for a movie to off Disney with (after being bought out) and Clerks was the perfect choice at the time.
But Smith is a very smart guy, and has managed to make the most of it.
I must say that I do admire him.
