How come Jeff Burton is starting the chase 7th in points BEHIND Clint Bowyer?

Burton, Hamlin, Earnhardt and Bowyer all won 1 race each and all gets 10 bonus points. But why and how is Jeff Burton starting last out of all of the drivers who won ONE race? He’s starting 7th in the Chase. I would think he should start 5th. Bowyer barely made the chase and he’s starting what? 4th or 5th in points?

Can somebody explain to me how a tie breaker is set?

When race wins are tied, the seeding goes to 2nd place finishes. The continue doing down (3rd place, 4th place, etc…) until the tie(s) is(are) broken.

    EDITING:
It does NOT go by top-5s after wins. It goes by second place finishes.
For proof, Clint Bowyer is seeded 5th with 1 win and 4 top-5s. Denny Hamlin is seeded 6th with 1 win and 9 top-5s.

    The tie breaker is always:
    wins
    2nd place finishes
    3rd place finishes
    4th place finishes
All the way to 43rd place finishes if necessary.

Here is the link to the standings, showing that Clint is seeded above Denny:

Jaynarie is right. It goes to second place finishes, then third and so on until the tie is broken.

they are all tied but then it is set by top 5s then top 10s… jr has more then denny, clint, and jeff so he is 4th, denny has more than clint and jeff, and jeff and clint are tied for top 5’s but clint has one more top 10 so he is ahead of him…

It does continue to go down the list from wins to top 5’s to top 10’s, etc… But, does it really matter? Even if qualifying is rained out at New Hampshire next weekend, it will be owner points that set the field, not the Chase points. So, does it really matter who is put where among the drivers tied for certain positions?

EDIT: WHEN you won your one race doesn’t mean anything. The tie breaker works the same as it does for any other time a tie breaker is needed. It goes by wins, then top 5’s, then top 10’s, and down the list…

Because Burton won his 1 race in March at Bristol, Bowyer won his 1 race in May at Richmond… most recent

Junior starts 4th b/c his win was most recent
Hamlin starts 6th b/c he won after Burton but before Bowyer

if Stewart would’ve won tonight Stewart would start 4th, Junior 5th, Bowyer 6th, Hamlin 7th and Burton 8th
